A 68-year-old cleaning woman named Geraldin Williams won the second largest lottery jackpot in U.S. History, $294 million. That's $11 million a year for 26 years, or a lump sum of $168 million before taxes. Williams said she intended on keeping the appointments she scheduled prior to winning the lottery and then plans to travel extensively. That's right, no more cleaning toilets, kickass! Big ups!

The owners of a 7-Eleven in Santa Clara were happy to receive the $250,000 commission from selling a winning lottery ticket in the store. But they were even more stoked to find out they themselves had bought the winning ticket. The couple, who have owned the store for over 16 years, is now $49.7 million richer. Amazingly, they said during a press conference that they plan to continue to run their store and will also continue to buy lottery tickets.
A kid in Missouri was thrown from his Jeep after colliding with another car earlier today. The Jeep spun and then rolled, throwing him 25 feet up in the air where he hung on to utility cables until help arrived 20 minutes later. He wasn't wearing a seat belt. Damn, how lucky was this bitch? If I were him, I'd buy a lottery ticket or something.
Some golfers go their whole lives without hitting a hole-in-one. This old guy hit two in a row--on consecutive holes. Incredible.
The state lottery office estimates the odds of hitting two jackpots in the same day as one in 24 trillion. For thise that are mathematically challenged that's 24 followed by twelve zeroes. I think that makes these guys the luckiest people, well, ever.
A Belmont couple won two separate lottery jackpots on the same day. One of them was Super Lotto Plus and the other was a Fantasy 5 jackpot. After taxes their winnings total $6.6MM. I'd be happy just to hit the smaller of the two jackpots for $126,000--I'm not greedy. The moral of the story is that determination pays off--they bought about 600 lottery tickets a month for years.
Here's a follow-up story from yesterday's blog entry.
This old man is the luckiest man alive. He was heading from the port of Long Beach to Santa Catalina Island, a 26-mile trip, when the mast of his boat broke. Adding insult to injury, the outboard motor and the two-way radio failed. He was lost at sea for over 3 months, he lost 40 pounds, but survived consuming rainwater, sea turtles and seagulls. Homeboy was roasting a gull when they found him.
This is just too weird--check it out.
