Rob & Amber Eliminated

In this episode, teams made their way to the city of Punta Arenas, Chile. Rob & Amber are the team to beat and the producers made it a point to have several teams say that on the pre-race interviews. This led me to believe that they were vulnerable on this episode. Call it a premonition or something, but I just knew something bad was going to happen to Rob & Amber. Unfortunately, I didn’t think that they would come in last place and be eliminated.

Rob & Amber chose to perform the Sign It Detour because Rob said “I’m good at building things.” Well, not really. Amber asked him to switch the task early in the Detour and Rob wanted to prove something by doing it. This was shocking to me because the Navigate It task seemed so much easier. All of the teams that chose that task were the first ones at the airport for the chartered flight to Argentina. Surely this would be an omen of things to come for Rob & Amber.

Mirna had a near mental breakdown doing the Sign It Detour and just ripped Charla a new one. Interestingly, Mirna wants to control exactly how things are done and lacks the emotional maturity to communicate to her cousin as an adult. I felt bad for the midget in this one. Mirna turned into a crazy bitch while yelling at Charla.

After the Detour, Rob & Amber were tied with five other teams for last place on the second flight. Then they were tied for last place with Charla & Mirna trying to catch a taxi out of the airport. They had all the chances but made a mistake at the end. Their biggest mistake was letting Rob do a Roadblock that required attention to detail over strategic thinking. Rob is not about the details and couldn’t find a letter in the stack.

Now that Rob & Amber are gone I have to choose another team to win. I will choose the Beauty Queens because I want an all-female team to finally win the race.

Here are the highlights for this episode:

  • “I am treating her pretty much like a guy, except she has nicer boobs” said Eric in describing his teammate. Surely he misses his old teammate, Jeremy, during the Pit Stops. We all know he really loves Jeremy and he should just quit with the charades!
  • “I do more than any one single person has probably ever had to do on the race to compensate for any shortcomings that we have” said Mirna in the pre-race interview. The producers did this as they showed Mirna scolding Charla for forgetting something in the car.
  • “Our bota has arrived” said the Beauty Queens in perfect make believe Spanish.
  • “This sucks!” said Rob as he and Amber walked to the Pit Stop. Rob looked like he would be a sore loser when he got to the Pit Stop, but ultimately he bowed out gracefully and admitted defeat. They are still one of the strongest teams to have ever run the race.
  • Episode Stats

Roadblock: Who’s good at sorting things out? One team member needed to sort through a mail bag with 1600 envelopes to find one of two letters addressed to their team. This letter was written by a team from their first season of the race. The letter had to be read aloud to their team to get their next clue.

Detour: Navigate It or Sign It. In Navigate It, teams use a map of Punta Arenas to get to the town plaza and use a compass to find a deep sea salvage business to get their next clue. Teams must use a pole and building supplies to make a sign post with all of Magellan’s destinations around the world to get their next clue. The catch: all the cities have to be in the right order and spelled correctly.

    Yield: None.

    Fast Forward: None.

    Pit Stop: Isla Redonda, Argentina.

Smartest Play: All of the teams that chose Navigate It at the Detour.

Dumbest Play: All of the teams that chose Sign It at the Detour.

Balls of the Week: Charla & Mirna not giving up when they knew they were in last place heading into the Roadblock.

Funniest Moment: Mirna having a near nervous breakdown at the Detour.

Pick to Win: The Beauty Queens (Currently in 5th Place)

Next to Be Eliminated: Charla & Mirna.
