Alison & Donny

In the second leg of the race, teams made their way from Punta Ballena, Uruguay to Buenos Aires, Argentina via ferry. This was a pretty short leg by Amazing Race standards, since it did not include a plane ride. The first team to leave the pit stop was Alison & Donny and they were bickering from the start–a sign of things to come.

Before getting on the ferry, teams had to make their way to a foam-filled disco in the capital city of Montevideo, Uruguay. Most teams made their way to the disco without incident, except for Charla & Mirna, who were lost getting there! Their inability to find the disco almost made them lose the 4:30AM ferry to Argentina, but they made it on the boat.

Once in Argentina, the teams had to make their way to a route marker located at Evita Peron’s grave. Most teams made it there without incident, but a couple of teams went to the wrong cemetery first. But the dumbest move came from Jim & Marsha, who decided to get change from dollars to the local currency because another team, Linda & Karen, told them that the taxis wouldn’t take dollars. I don’t know if this is true, but that’s a pretty ruthless tactic! It’s their own fault for listening to the bullshit though.

The route marker at the grave site was a Detour, Perros or Tango. Teams had to choose to walk eight dogs through town checkpoints or identify tango dancers at a theater. Alison & Donny just broke down here. They yelled throughout the Perros challenge, insulting each other to the point of inaction. They couldn’t find the first checkpoint even though they had a map! Eventually, they turned back to do the Tango challenge. It was clear that Alison & Donny truly hated each other here, they were doomed.

After the Detour, teams had to make their way to the countryside to go to a farm. Most of the teams took taxis there but three teams, Alison & Donny, Chip & Kim, and twins Kami & Karli, chose to take a bus instead. Doesn’t anybody watch this show before signing up? Never take a fucking bus when you can take a taxi, dumb fuckers! In my view, these three teams all deserved elimintation.

After getting off the bus, Chip & Kim and Kami & Karli had a brief standoff for a taxi to the farm. Chip looked like he wouldn’t back down but eventually conceded the taxi after another one pulled up. A little dramatic, but necessary under the circumstances–they were bringing up the rear. Ironically, they didn’t know that Alison & Donny were on the bus behind them and heading for certain doom. Just in time too, since their constant fighting was wearing thin. Adios motherfuckers!

I initially thought that Alison & Donny was the first team ever to go from first place to elimination, so I did a little research. It turns out that they are actually the fourth to go down like this, in legs of six teams or more. The other losers are as follows:

Amanda & Chris, Amazing Race 4, Leg 2, 1st to 11th Place
Steve & Josh, Amazing Race 4, Leg 4, 1st to 9th Place
Mary & Peach, Amazing Race 2, Leg 7, 1st to 6th Place

I’ve decided that each week I am going to post Funniest Moment, Stupidest Moment, and the Balls of the Week award, in addition to Teams I Hate, Teams I Like, and Current Pick to Win. So here it goes:

Funniest Moment: Dwarf dancing in disco covered to her head in foam.
Stupidest Moment: Jim & Marsha exchanging money needlessly in Argentina.
Balls of the Week: Chip’s taxi standoff with the twins.

Teams I Hate: Kami & Karli, Brandon & Nicole.
Teams I Like: Chip & Kim, Bob & Joyce
Current Pick: Chip & Kim

Why pick Chip & Kim? Chip showed eaqual parts of heart and ruthlessness during the taxi cab standoff with the twins going into the final stretch. Let’s see what happens next week–stay tuned.
